2016 Top NHL Rookies for Daily Fantasy Hockey

2016 – 2017 Top NHL Rookies for Daily Fantasy Hockey

Auston Matthews and Patrik LaineSo the summer is ending and it’s time to start playing daily fantasy hockey games again at top DFS sites like FanDuel. Each year DFS Hockey keeps growing as players that get into daily fantasy through other sports like football or baseball learn that they can ditch their old NHL Fantasy Hockey Pool and make some real cash playing DFS games.

It’s early and salary cap numbers haven’t been released yet but regardless for the first few weeks of 2016, NHL Rookies are usually undervalued since no one knows what to expect from them.

Below is our list of 2016/2017 NHL Rookies for Fantasy Hockey games that should have an immediate impact for your DraftKings or FanDuel lineups. You can also scout out some of the other Top Daily Fantasy Hockey Sites and see if they are a better bargain on particular nights.

2016 NHL Rookies for Fantasy Hockey

1. Auston Matthews (C, Toronto Maple Leafs) – The 1st overall pick of the NHL Draft will basically be given a job right away. He is talented and with a team that nobody expects anything from in the Maple Leafs, Matthews will basically get to play however he wants.

2. Patrik Laine (RW, Winnipeg Jets) – Should crack the top 2 forward lines in Winnipeg and could be also given some power play time which makes him a great FanDuel fantasy pick on most nights if his salary cap price remains low.

3. Dylan Strome (C, Arizona Coyotes) – Strome could turn out to be the best player on the Coyotes roster by the end of the 2016/2017 season. He was scoring almost 2 points per game in the minors and looks ready to make the leap to the NHL. Should be worth a look at FanDuel on most nights to see if he is a good value pick.

4. Jimmy Vesey (LW, New York Rangers) – The 2016 Hobey Baker Award winner may finally hit the NHL ice. Vesey is a big left winger who has skill as a passer and sees the game well. He should crack the top 6 for the Rangers out of training camp and will have some nice fantasy nights in 2016!

5. Jesse Puljujarvi (RW, Edmonton Oilers) – Offense probably won’t be an issue in Edmonton this year and many think that Puljujarvi falling to the Oilers could make the team all offense all he time in 2016. He should be a 2nd line winger and could be with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as his center but don’t be surprised if he ends up with McDavid on certain nights as well.

6. Mitchell Marner (C, Toronto Maple Leafs) – Many are expecting Marner to be paired on the 2nd line with Auston Matthews to allow them to be a rookie line that gets to develop. If that’s the case, Marner who has goal scoring talents already could be in for an NHL fantasy hockey points feast on certain nights.

7. Connor Brown (RW, Toronto Maple Leafs) – The forgotten prospect, Connor Brown was a star in the OHL even after his teammate Connor McDavid left for the NHL. Brown is a bit of a shorter player but he could sneak up and become a 2nd line player before too long.

8. Mikko Rantanen (RW, Colorado Avalanche) – Rantanen should make the team out of training camp and could be a quiet sleeper pick for the rookies this year. He would be a spot play on certain nights for your fantasy hockey lineup but could be a nice value play if he gets into a groove with the Avalanche.

9. Zach Werenski (D, Columbus Blue Jackets) – Werenski gets to learn from some great defensemen in Columbus and could be a second line center before too long. He probably won’t get much power play time but he has offensive talent and could be a good pick up for a D for your DFS hockey lineup.

10. Alex Nylander (C/RW, Toronto Maple Leafs) – I know, this is the 4th Toronto Maple Leaf on this list but the fact remains, these kids all have talent and will be playing with no pressure to be a playoff team. Nylander has popped his head out of the minors and played in NHL games and looks ready to contribute in 2016.
